If so, we want to hear from you! Randstad Education is building a pool of talented and empathetic SEND Teaching Assistants to work in mainstream primary schools across the Leeds area. We are looking for dedicated individuals to take on a variety of day-to-day and long-term opportunities from September 2025 and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

As an SEND Teaching Assistant in a mainstream primary school, your role is pivotal to a pupil's success. You will be responsible for:

  • Confidently carrying out specific strategies and interventions outlined in a pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

  • Working one-on-one or with small groups to ensure pupils with SEND can access the mainstream curriculum and participate fully in school life.

  • Adapting classroom materials and activities to suit a pupil's individual learning style and needs.

  • Utilising proactive de-escalation and positive reinforcement to manage and guide a pupil's behaviour in a busy setting.

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents to provide a consistent and effective support network.

  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of a pupil's progress, achievements, and challenges.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • Demonstrable experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEND) in a mainstream primary setting.

  • An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).

  • The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.

  • Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, or PECS is highly desirable.

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to your work.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
