Key Responsibilities

As an SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will be instrumental in ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment for pupils. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing bespoke one-on-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges.
  • Confidently implementing positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to help pupils feel secure and focused.
  • Facilitating social interaction and helping pupils to participate fully in classroom activities and with their peers.
  • Acting as a trusted adult, you will provide consistent emotional support to pupils who may feel anxious or overwhelmed.
  • Assisting with the tracking of pupil progress and providing accurate feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is highly desirable, or you must have significant, demonstrable experience working with children with SEN/SEMH needs.
  • An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
  • The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A resilient, patient, and highly adaptable approach.
  • A genuine passion for helping vulnerable pupils.
  • Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, or PECS is highly desirable.
