The Loddon School is seeking a dedicated, passionate, and committed teacher capable of achieving high standards in a functional setting throughout the day.
Loddon School is more than a residential institution; it is a home for children aged 8–19 with profound autism, who are non-verbal and have severe learning difficulties, leading to challenging behaviors.
Our approach differs as many of our children have experienced mainstream and special schools before. We offer a home-based style of education, emphasizing learning through play and new life skills. Operating 52 weeks a year, we provide numerous learning opportunities for our children.
Our goal is to enhance each child's quality of life. Our multidisciplinary team employs positive working methods and a solution-focused approach to engage children and prepare them for adulthood.
We do not rely on traditional classrooms, so creativity in planning activities within our bespoke curriculum is essential. This curriculum satisfies the National Curriculum, Ofsted, and National Minimum Standards for Children’s Homes, while also stimulating learning.
Responsibilities:
You will oversee the education and care of a group of four to five children, supported by a dedicated team. Your responsibilities include staff development, monitoring education and care plans, recommending training, and managing staff rotas.
You should understand the National Curriculum and differentiation to align with our PLLUSS Curriculum. Experience with children with severe learning difficulties and autism, positive behavior support, and problem-solving skills are required. Knowledge of PROACT SCIPr-UK is desirable, or a willingness to learn and support our ethos.
Hours:
The working week is Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with one Saturday in seven on a rota for weekend activities. Leave during term time is shared among the team, with options for holiday leave aligned with mainstream school holidays if preferred.
You will join a friendly, enthusiastic, and qualified staff team. The role is challenging, stimulating, and rewarding, with comprehensive training and induction provided.
What we offer:
Salary: Teacher Pay Scale for England: M1 – M6.
Requirements: All applicants must have the right to work in the UK, be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check, and share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
