Job summary

An innovative educational support provider near Welwyn Garden City is seeking a passionate Learning Support Assistant to support children with complex learning needs. In this role, you will build trusting relationships with pupils, assist in delivering tailored lessons, and provide behaviour and personal care support. Ideal candidates will possess experience with students with SLD or ASD and demonstrate strong communication skills. Position Details
  • Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 15:30 (Term-Time Only)
  • Pay: £90 - £100 per day (inclusive of 12.07% holiday pay)
  • Contract: Temp to Perm
About the School

This specialist setting caters to pupils aged 4-19 with a range of complex needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and associated behavioural challenges. The school is committed to creating a structured, nurturing, and engaging environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth for all learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with pupils, particularly those of secondary age
  • Support the delivery of individualised lessons that promote engagement and skill-building
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, focusing on behaviour regulation, sensory needs, and communication
  • Use a calm and positive approach to support pupils with challenging behaviour
  • Assist with personal care and mobility support where needed
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure cohesive support
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
What We're Looking For
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SLD, ASD, or behaviours that challenge
  • Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils
  • A calm, resilient and proactive attitude
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding, behaviour support, and inclusive education
  • We welcome professional or personal experience - whether through work, volunteering, or supporting family
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
  • Reliable access to Welwyn Garden City
