We are recruiting experienced SEMH Tutors to provide tailored, in‑person educational support to secondary‑aged students in the North Shields area. This role involves working with young people who are currently accessing education outside of mainstream school due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

About the Role

Tutors will work on a 1:1 or small group basis with learners who may experience emotional dysregulation, anxiety, low confidence, or difficulties engaging with formal learning. Many of the students we support are working towards reintegration into education and benefit from a calm, consistent, and supportive approach. The role is ideal for tutors who are confident supporting emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress, and who can adapt their teaching to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver SEMH‑informed tutoring sessions in person
  • Plan flexible lessons that support progress in English, Maths, and Science
  • Use engagement strategies to encourage participation and build confidence
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour during sessions
  • Create a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment
  • Record attendance, progress, and engagement
  • Communicate updates to parents/carers and the Prospero Teaching team
Role Details
  • Pay Rate: Up to £30 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
  • Hours: Between 3 and 15 hours per week
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Location: North Shields, Tyne and Wear
  • Contract: Part‑time, flexible hours
  • Additional Benefits: Access to Prospero Teaching's Resource Hub and CPD‑accredited training
Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs (PRU, alternative provision, tutoring, youth work, or SEN backgrounds welcome)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS certificate on the child workforce (Update Service or willing to apply)
  • Two professional references covering the last two years

If you are passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs and want a flexible role where you can make a meaningful impact, we would love to hear from you.
