Location: Doncaster
Salary: £95 - £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract:Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

Do you thrive on supporting young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges to succeed in education and beyond? If so, GSL Education are partnering with a nurturing and forward-thinking school in Doncaster that specialises in providing tailored support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Role Overview:
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who experience behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties that hinder their ability to access learning. Your role will involve implementing strategies that promote positive behaviour, supporting learning in and out of the classroom, and fostering an inclusive and respectful school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored interventions and behaviour plans.
  • Promote emotional well-being, resilience, and positive social interactions.
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to ensure each pupil’s progress.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or within an alternative provision.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches, emotional regulation, and behaviour de-escalation strategies.
  • Ability to stay calm, patient, and compassionate under pressure or during challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with vulnerable students.
  • Confidence to manage challenging behaviours while maintaining respect and empathy.
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy to support students across curriculum areas.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
