SEMH Teaching Assistant - Bromley

Location: Croydon

Start Date: ASAP / February Half Term

Contract: Full-time or Part-time | Long-term (with some short-term options)

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

We're recruiting resilient, grounded, and committed SEMH Teaching Assistants to work across highly regarded SEN Trusts in Croydon, Bromley, and South East London. This role isn't about standing on the sidelines. It's about stepping in, holding boundaries, building trust, and being a consistent role model for young people who need it most.

You'll be working with pupils across Primary and Secondary phases, supporting students with SEMH, complex mental health needs, ADHD, and ASD. Environments vary significantly, and we take time to match you to a setting where your strengths, personality, and experience will be used to best effect.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to pupils with SEMH, complex mental health needs, ASD, ADHD, or learning difficulties (experience can come from education, youth work, care, mental health, sports coaching, the armed forces, or similar settings).
  • Maintain confidence and composure when managing challenging behaviour.
  • Be a calm, authoritative presence with a focus on de-escalation and consistency.
  • Build respect and rapport with young people who may test boundaries.
  • Support the safeguarding process and, where required, facilitate a safe learning environment.
  • Possess an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service; support with DBS process if needed (timelines may be extended).
  • Contribute to helping young people develop emotionally, socially, and behaviourally.
