Job description
SEHSCT Advanced Practitioner Level 1 Speech and Language Therapist, Band 7

The post holder will work as an Advanced Practitioner Level 1 Speech and Language Therapist within the SLT Children’s Community Service.To be responsible for/contribute to the operational management of the Community Clinic / Clinics.The post holder will practice autonomously, providing highly specialist clinical expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, management and discharge of children and young people (CYP) with a broad range of speech, language and communication needs, associated with Learning difficulties, Developmental Language Disorder, Significant Speech Sound Disorder and ASD. The post holder will have a clinical caseload.

Responsibilities
  • To be responsible for comprehensive, specialist, holistic assessment, diagnosis, prioritisation, treatment and discharge of CYP within the client group, in partnership with parents/carers and relevant Health/Educational professionals.
  • To promote and develop a collaborative approach in the management of these groups of children and young people as the post will have a strong emphasis on inter-agency working, particularly with Education.
  • Be proactive in clinical decision making underpinned by an advanced level of theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • To be responsible for the planning and management of the caseload in conjunction with the clinical and service lead and other senior staff as appropriate.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a minimum of five years recent, relevant postgraduate clinical experience of which 3 must be at band 6 with children and young people with a range of Speech, Language and Communication difficulties.
  • Advanced training and experience of communication and associated disorders within the client group at postgraduate level e.g. Msc or equivalent.
  • Advanced training and/or experience of working with children with speech sound disorders.
  • Advanced training and experience of therapeutic approaches to support language development within the client group e.g. Hanen, Derbyshire Language Scheme.
  • Knowledge and experience of training approaches with parents and carers e.g. Hanen, Elklan, and evidence of involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of training to parents, carers and others.
  • Professional qualifications required by Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Current registration of R.C.S.L.T and license to practice.
  • Current registration of Health Care Professional Council.
  • Professional indemnity insurance.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
  • This criterion will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
