Job Description

Role Overview: As a Seismic Specialist Mechanical Engineer, you will report to the Valve Engineering Mechanical Team Leader within the Product Delivery Group (PDG) in Grid Systems Integration (GSI). The role involves designing, analysing, and testing mechanical systems and structures for HVDC Valve products to meet stringent seismic and structural requirements. You will collaborate with electrical engineers, cooling engineers, and external compliance experts to ensure products are robust, compliant, and fit for manufacturing.

Key responsibilities include performing seismic qualification analyses (such as response spectrum and time-history analysis) following standards like IEEE 693 and ASCE 7. You will help prepare seismic certification documentation (analysis, FEA, and shake-table coordination) and work with third-party labs for seismic testing and certification. The role also includes supporting structural analysis, design reviews, and compliance with global seismic codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform seismic qualification analyses (e.g., response spectrum, time-history analysis) based on IEEE 693, ASCE 7, and other relevant standards.
  • Prepare documentation for seismic certification, including FEA analysis and coordination of shake-table tests.
  • Work with third-party labs to support seismic testing and certification.
  • Conduct structural analysis and participate in design reviews for seismic code compliance.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, site, and quality teams to ensure Design For Manufacture (DFM) and structural integrity during installation.
  • Support thermal and vibration analysis considering seismic influences.
  • Evaluate and recommend fasteners, supports, damping materials, and anchorage systems for seismic performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of designs, test results, and engineering change documentation.
Candidate Profile
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR strong proven experience in seismic analysis/testing for mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience in seismic analysis and testing of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Proficient in CAD (Creo or similar) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred or SAP2000).
  • Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Familiar with seismic standards such as IEEE 693 and materials used in high‑voltage environments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of document control practices and EHS compliance.
Desired Characteristics
  • Experience in electrical transmission, HVDC, or related industries.
  • Ability to deliver high‑quality work within deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Exposure to LEAN or continuous improvement methods.
  • Willingness to travel globally, including offshore/sea platforms for short periods.
