Job summary

A wildlife conservation organization is seeking Seasonal Wardens for the Anglesey Tern SPA. Candidates will monitor seabird colonies and conduct data collection in remote locations. Ideal candidates should be passionate about wildlife, able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and possess good bird identification skills. Positions are available with full accommodation provided, running from April to August. This role requires physical capability and the ability to work independently.

Location: Wardens live on site at The Skerries and Ynys Feurig
Contract: Fixed Term, 3.5 or 4 months
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Would you like to spend the summer working on the Isle of Anglesey, spending your days by the sea watching over a bustling tern colony? Do you love seabirds and want to make a real difference to their fortunes?

We are looking to fill two vacancies at each of two very different sites – The Skerries and Ynys Feurig – both are part of the Anglesey Terns SPA and home to mixed colonies of Arctic & Common Terns. A fifth contract focusing on The Inland Sea and supporting the other sites may be available subject to confirmation of funding.

The Skerries contract runs from 22 April until 22 August; Ynys Feurig from 1 May until 15 August. The Inland Sea role, if available, would run from 8 April until 7 August.

Accommodation is provided.

The ideal candidate will be a wildlife enthusiast, self‑motivated, meticulous in data collection, and happy to work outside in all weathers and isolated locations.

What we need from you:

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Passionate about birds & wildlife
  • Happy to live & work in a small team in a remote location
  • To be meticulous and thorough in data collection & recording
  • Able to work & meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Able to complete physical tasks – this role requires working on land that may be flooded, muddy or uneven, also clambering over uneven rocks. Candidates will need to be able to meet the rigour of the role and understand the health and safety demands of working in these environments.
  • Have good bird identification skills, including Tern species.
  • Be practically‑mind‑ed & able to problem‑solve.
  • Be confident in report writing.
  • Happy to work outside in all weathers, including at night (Ynys Feurig only)


Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Have experience of biological data collection.
  • Full driver's licence valid for use in the UK (Essential for the Inland Sea role).

Additional Information

Please note that we are also seeking Breeding Wader Surveyors, these contracts could be completed prior to the start of the Seasonal Warden – Anglesey Tern SPA.
