Job description

MannKind Corporation focuses on the development and commercialization of innovative inhaled therapeutic products and devices to address serious unmet medical needs for those living with endocrine and orphan lung diseases. We are committed to using our formulation capabilities and device engineering prowess to lessen the burden of diseases such as diabetes, nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertension. Our signature technologies – dry-powder formulations and inhalation devices – offer rapid and convenient delivery of medicines to the deep lung where they can exert an effect locally or enter the systemic circulation, depending on the target indication.

Position Summary

The Associate Scientist, Formulation and Analytical Development works within the Product Development team and supports formulation and analytical testing for our parenteral drug products. This role involves hands‑on laboratory work, including sample preparation, execution of analytical test methods, and documentation of results in compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. The position reports to the Senior Manager, Formulation and Analytical Development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples and reagents for analytical testing and formulation studies.
  • Perform routine laboratory testing using techniques such as HPLC, UV-Vis, syringe functionality (using mechanical tester), osmolality, rheometry, and particle size analysis.
  • Accurately document experimental procedures and results in laboratory notebooks and electronic systems.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and proper functioning.
  • Support method development, method transfer and validation activities as directed by senior staff.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain compliance with internal SOPs.
Required Experience Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years experience (or Masters with 0-2 years experience) in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Lab experience in pharmaceuticals or biotech industry preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in analytical testing/techniques, such as HPLC and mechanical testing.
  • Awareness in pharmaceutical regulations, standards, guidance, GXP, and quality systems.
