Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated Science Technician to join our friendly, supportive team.

The role involves organising and delivering technical assistance to support efficient practical activities to both the science staff and students. Science is a practical subject, and as our science technician you will be responsible for enabling learning opportunities from students in Year 7 right through to Year 13. We have outstanding facilities for teaching science at Nailsea, a wonderful team of supportive staff and a student body who enjoy their science lessons.

The role is equally suited to experienced applicants that have had a career in science and are now keen to support the science education of young people, or applicants with both a passion for science, and science qualifications, who are highly motivated and willing to learn new skills.

This role will cross all science disciplines, and will also incorporate additional support to the wider needs of the school from time to time, such as during exam periods or for First Aid.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the teaching of science lessons through preparation of chemicals and resources.
  • Ensuring that all Practical resources are available and ready for use when needed. This includes cleaning, preparation and assembly of technical materials, apparatus and equipment, their safe storage and the disposal of used or waste products.
  • Assisting in the delivery of practical lessons, carrying out demonstrations when required.
  • Maintenance of the school's science equipment and resources, reporting any damage and faults.
  • Ensuring that health and safety standards are met.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Have excellent organisational skills.
  • Be able to manage a workload and prioritise.
  • Be accurate and detailed in their approach to work.
  • Good communication skills and able to work well as part of a team.
  • Experience in a similar role is advantageous, alongside a willingness to learn new skills and possess a proven interest in science. You will work as part of our experienced Science Team who will provide training and support as required, supplemented by external training needed.
  • The ideal candidate will hold, or be willing to undertake a First Aid certification in support of the role.

  • Grade 13 (Point 6-11) - £25,989 to £28,142 pro rata/ Grade 14 (Point 4-6) - £25,185 to £25,989 pro rata depending on relevant experience.
  • Actual starting salary (pro-rata'd to actual hours): Grade 13 - £20,836 / Grade 14 - £20,191
