School IT Technician - Tunbridge Wells

Type: Full-time, Permanent (52 weeks per year)

Salary: Kent Range C (£25,252 per annum)

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic IT Technician to join a busy and well‑respected school IT department. The IT team is dedicated to empowering staff and students through technology. The primary purpose of the role is to support IT systems within the school, maintain software, hardware, and related equipment, and provide technical support to staff and students to ensure smooth administration and enhanced learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.
  • Maintain a database of IT support requests and allocate jobs appropriately.
  • Ensure IT areas are prepared for daily use and in good working order at the end of the day.
  • Conduct regular hardware checks, repair simple faults, and escalatie complex issues.
  • Support teaching staff and students with technical IT matters.
  • Maintain computer files through regular backups, updates, and archiving.
  • Maintain and develop the school network.
  • Support adherence to IT policies, including safeguarding, internet usage, Data Protection, and Information Management.
  • Provide basic IT training to staff and students.
  • Keep the IT hardware asset register up to date.
  • Maintain and manage school software packages and licensing agreements.
  • Assist with CCTV systems, including logging requests, supporting investigations, and ensuring GDPR and safeguarding compliance.
  • Under the guidance of the IT Manager, configure and maintain CCTV systems, access control systems, and IP phone systems.
  • Arrange new ID badges, manage timings of access control, and liaise with support providers as needed.

Qualifications
  • Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent) in IT.
Experience
  • Proven experience in an IT environment working with software, hardware, and networks.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with staff and students at all levels.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety issues relating to IT.
Knowledge
  • Familiarity with a range of IT systems and software packages.
  • Knowledge of network management.
  • Full understanding of the Data Protection Act 1998, Freedom of Information Act 2000, and Information Governance.
