Job summary

A temp-to-permanent recruitment agency in the UK seeks a School Finance Officer to manage financial operations within a high school. The ideal candidate will produce management accounts, support budget holders, and assist with audits. A minimum of AAT Level 3 and strong finance experience, particularly in education, are required. School Finance Officer – Wigan | Full time, starting Jan 2026 | Temp with view to becoming permanent

Our client are looking for an experienced School Finance Officer to support financial operations within their high school.

Duties
  • Produce monthly management accounts, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Lead accruals, prepayments, journals, VAT reconciliations, and month/year-end tasks.
  • Support budget holders with clear financial insights and compliance advice.
  • Complete regular bank reconciliations and maintain audit‑ready records.
  • Assist internal/external audits with accurate documentation.
  • Train new staff and help onboard new schools/teams into finance systems.
  • Improve processes through automation and data‑driven tools.
About You
  • Strong experience in finance, ideally within an education setting.
  • Advanced Excel and financial system skills (Access Workspace, MIS, Microsoft 365).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex data.
  • Proactive, accurate, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • AAT Level 3 required.
