Job Summary

SARC National Paediatric Clinical Director (Maternity cover up to 18 months)

Base Location: Head Office in Stevenage; the role is fully remote.

This role predominantly covers both paediatric and adult services.

Salary: £79,497-82,638 (pro rata)

Part-Time, 24 hours per week.

Rota: 9 am – 8 pm, Monday to Friday.

Main Duties
  • The Clinical Director will support SARC managers and multidisciplinary staff to provide a safe, high‑quality forensic, medical, and psycho‑social service to children and young people under 18 years attending Mountain Healthcare SARC services.
  • Work closely with the MHL Associate Medical Director and medical appraisers to ensure Paediatric Forensic Doctors engage in regular appraisal and revalidation.
  • Support statement review for Paediatric Forensic Doctors and Forensic Nurses when examining children under 18.
  • Provide case‑management advice for children and young people attending MHL SARC services, including supporting daily case review.
  • Support Paediatric SARC governance activities aligned with CQC compliance and other national standards.
  • Share best practice and drive improvements in care, especially complex case management and safeguarding for children and young people.
  • Develop forensic strategies according to FFLM guidelines.
  • Actively partner with external MDTs and Police.
  • Serve as point of contact for Police and Social Services to discuss referral pathways.
  • Undertake holistic assessments covering sexual health, mental health, and safeguarding.
  • Support continuous quality improvement of the service.
  • Work under Forensic Science Regulator requirements.
  • Obtain consent for Health and Forensic procedures.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree or equivalent.
  • Completion of Foundation Training and 3 years at specialty trainee level.
  • UK full residency for a minimum of 3 years (required for police background checks).
  • Membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine in Sexual Offence Medicine.
  • GMC Registered.

Desired Enhancements:

  • Experience in management, clinical governance, audits, safeguarding and expert witness work.
  • Experience with Forensic Science Regulations.
  • Diploma in Children’s Health.
  • Post‑graduate qualifications in research.

GMC registration is required. We cannot support international visas. Police vetting requires 3 years residence in the UK.
