Job description

We are recruiting an experienced Project Manager with Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status to deliver a range of asset replacement and construction schemes across high-voltage distribution and transmission networks from 11kV up to 132kV. This role blends technical SAP responsibilities with full project management accountability, ensuring all works are completed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

This role provides the chance to be part of a forward-looking team actively supporting the development of the UK’s electricity infrastructure and helping to achieve the national Net Zero goals.

Core Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of multiple HV projects from planning through delivery, ensuring completion within scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Perform and oversee HV switching operations, isolations, and earthing, issuing safety documentation in line with SSEN or other DNO safety protocols.

  • Prepare and deliver switching schedules, method statements, and design reviews for construction activities.

  • Supervise energisation of new and modified equipment, carrying out required tests such as spiking and pressure testing.

  • Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 regulations, managing on-site operations and coordinating subcontractors and client-appointed contractors.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring for site teams, promoting safe working practices and high-quality outcomes.

  • Manage commercial aspects including valuations, resource allocation, and cost control.

  • Maintain accurate project records including test data, drawings, and handover documentation.

  • Ensure company tools and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and compliant.

  • Support development of junior staff and reinforce a strong safety-first culture.

  • Build lasting client relationships that encourage repeat business and long-term partnerships.

Candidate Profile
  • HNC, degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.

  • Proven experience managing high-voltage projects (11kV–132kV).

  • Background in power distribution, preferably with a DNO or IDNO.

  • Active SAP authorisation up to 33kV/132kV (SSEN or equivalent).

  • Strong knowledge of commissioning and operational practices for substation equipment.

  • Solid commercial understanding of construction/design contracts (e.g., NEC).

  • Effective communicator with leadership and mentoring ability.

  • Familiar with CDM regulations and site safety management.

  • SMSTS, SSSTS, IOSH, or NEBOSH certification desirable.

  • Full UK driving licence.
