A local medical centre in Pontefract is seeking a motivated General Practitioner to provide high-quality primary care services for 4 sessions weekly, starting April 2026. The role includes managing various health conditions and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should possess MRCGP, full GMC registration, and be proficient in clinical IT systems. Competitive sessional pay is offered along with medical indemnity coverage. This is a unique opportunity arising due to retirement within the team.
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic General Practitioner tojoin our friendly and supportive training practice for 4 sessions per week, ideally startingApril 2026.
Pay will be a sessional rate of £10500-£11000 per session per year depending on experience. Medical Indemnity is paid by the practice.
You will deliver high-quality primary care services based in a single practice, alongside ateam of 5 GPs, 1 ANP, nursing and pharmacy teams. Your roles will include:
Managing a range of acute, chronic, and complex conditions
Face to face clinics, which is the majority of your appointments, but we alsoprovide telephone and online services
Home Visits
Contributing to clinical governance, QOF achievement, and practicedevelopment
Working collaboratively with the wider practice and PCN team
Station Lane Medical Centre is a GP practice located in Featherstone, Pontefract andserves the local population with a list size of approximately 8000. We are all committedto providing high-quality, patient-centred care whilst promoting a healthy work-lifebalance for all our staff with a strong awareness of balancing work and family life. We pride ourselves on working closely within the clinical team to make collective decisions on improving patient care whatever role that team member may have and we do so by meeting for two hours every Wednesday together. There are four partners and two salaried GP's. This exciting job opportunity has arisen due to retirement.
You will expected to provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract andadditional enhanced services where appropriate
In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home,checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperworkand correspondence in a timely fashion
To record clear and contemporaneous computer-based consultation notes toagreed standards using SystmOne
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated andundiagnosed problems
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice diseasemanagement protocols, developing care plans for health
Providing counselling and health education
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions(avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriate
Supervise and debrief GP trainees and allied healthcare professionals whenneeded with protected time to do so.
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal dutiesand responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
