Job summary

A community-focused emergency service is seeking volunteers for the GMFRS Safety Centre in Bury. This role involves delivering educational tours to schools and community members, empowering them to learn about safety in an engaging environment. Volunteers must be over 16 and able to commit to at least two sessions per month. Can you offer a minimum of two days a month volunteer support to make a real impact in your community with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS)?

An exciting new volunteering opportunity is available at Bury Training and Safety Centre to deliver tours for schools and members of the community. This interactive journey at the Safety Centre gives an exciting and immersive learning experience for our visitors to learn how to protect themselves against fire, other dangers in the home, on our roads and around water.

Successful candidates will receive comprehensive training and become a highly valued member of the Safety Centre team, and an ambassador for the Centre and GMFRS.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience and learn valuable skills or share your own skills, knowledge and experience.

We welcome applications from all community members. Volunteers must be over the age of 16 to apply. Travel expenses to and from the site will be reimbursed in line with our Volunteer Travel and Subsistence Policy.

About you

We’re seeking passionate communicators who thrive when engaging with people and are committed to making a difference. Team players who thrive on collaboration and can work with a dedicated team to deliver our safety messages effectively.

You must
  • Be 16 year or older
  • Be able to support a minimum of two visitor sessions per month at the Safety Centre per calendar month during school term time and hours.
  • Be reliable and able to travel to the Bury Training an Safety Centre
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills in a professional setting to a range of audiences.
  • Willing to undertake a EDBS with Barred Lists
