Job summary

A leading infrastructure firm in the UK is seeking a Nuclear Safety Case Manager to lead safety case development and management for a major project. You will ensure that all safety documentation meets regulatory standards and supervise technical teams to deliver quality compliance. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in nuclear safety case management and excellent stakeholder management skills. This is an office-based role requiring periodic site visits, with a commitment to safe delivery of critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of UK nuclear regulatory frameworks.

Overview

The Nuclear Safety Case Manager will lead the planning, oversight, supervision, and assessment of safety case production for a major Infrastructure project. This role ensures that all safety documentation, compliance frameworks, and risk assessments meet nuclear regulatory standards and site requirements, supporting safe delivery of critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Safety Case Development & Management
  • Lead the preparation, review, and approval of nuclear safety cases for the project.
  • Ensure safety documentation aligns with regulatory and site licence requirements.
  • Oversee hazard identification, risk assessment, and ALARP demonstrations.
  • Planning & Oversight
  • Develop and maintain safety case schedules integrated with project milestones.
  • Provide governance and assurance across safety case activities.
  • Supervise technical teams producing safety documentation, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Assessment & Assurance
  • Conduct independent assessments of safety case submissions.
  • Chair safety case review meetings and provide authoritative guidance.
  • Liaise with regulators, stakeholders, and project leadership to resolve safety case issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as the primary interface with regulatory bodies.
  • Communicate safety case progress, risks, and mitigations to senior management.
  • Support training and mentoring of junior safety engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in nuclear safety case management within defence or civil nuclear projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK nuclear regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise, and assure safety case production.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in technical/project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, BIM, MS Project).
Desirable/Additional
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional registration.
  • Experience in infrastructure projects supporting naval or defence operations.
  • Familiarity with safety assessment methodologies (HAZOP, FMEA, fault tree analysis).
  • Background in nuclear, oil & gas, or civil infrastructure safety assurance.

The setting for the role

The role will be office based but site visits will be required. The site is registered a nuclear licenced site, so you must adhere to all safety and site requirements. A full induction will be provided.
