Overview

This role delivers the duties of an MCTA Machinery Vibration Assessment Officer, including the maintenance of professional standards through training and development to deliver Operational Capability assessments as required by NCHQ, DE&S and the Naval Authority and Technology Group. This needs to be supported by an ability to work independently along with good interpersonal skills that have been demonstrated in a team working environment. Location and travel

Whilst based in Victory Building in Portsmouth, the role is required to visit other locations around the UK and on occasions abroad to conduct, manage and deliver specialist VA support. Out of hours and weekend working including nights away at sea and in other locations can be expected.

Key tasks
  • On behalf of key customers within Navy Command and Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) to provide specialist VA support through electro-mechanical health assessments to promote operational capability and through life support across the MOD’s maritime environment.
  • Deliver specialist VA outputs through technical and managerial oversight of 3 specialist teams whilst undertaking and developing own individual specialist VA skills:
  • Deliver timely, accurate and meaningful VA outputs to meet prioritised requirements in support of risk-based decisions.
  • Provide technical and managerial oversight of Royal Navy team members based in Devonport, Portsmouth and Scotland (Faslane) which will include direct Line Management responsibility and reports.
  • Manage delivery of specialist VA training to team members.
  • Manage IT and equipment availability.
  • Liaise with other MCTA Trials Teams and across the wider MOD Maritime environment to support and advise on VA.
Additional responsibilities
  • Provide support to the MTAU and MVAU teams in the delivery of trials to be conducted in accordance with the current Shipping Regulations, Defence Standards, Classification Society Rules, Books of Reference and Operating Manuals.
  • Analysis and Trials will require the production of reports to deliver feedback and outputs to inform risk based decisions based on electro-mechanical-acoustic signature health assessments.
  • The post holder is encouraged to have an informed opinion on matters that affect MCTA and the Directorate as a whole and support initiatives to improve the conduct and cost of business activities.
