Restaurant & Retail Manager
Barton upon Humber
£30k to £35k depending on experience.
Daytimes only. No evening service, but occasional events may require evening management.
Reports to: Centre General Manager / Owner.
Key Responsibilities
- Restaurant Management: Oversee breakfast, lunch, coffee & cake service; manage front‑of‑house recruiting, training, scheduling and performance management; ensure high standards of food quality, presentation, service, hygiene and safety; monitor costs, manage POS and shift reporting; develop menu ideas and seasonal offers; keep the space welcoming and aligned with company policies.
- Retail Management: Oversee two small retail departments; maintain fresh product ranges and displays; lead the retail sales team; monitor inventory, margins and shrinkage; deliver a premium visitor experience; collaborate with marketing for campaigns and cross‑promotion.
- Leadership & Commercial: Set performance targets; lead by example in customer service; forecast, budget and drive growth in footfall and spend; develop direct reports; ensure regulatory compliance; support the site team; be flexible and hands‑on during busy periods.
Skills, Experience & Attributes
- Proven management experience with a successful Front‑of‑House restaurant team.
- Excellent customer service ethos with high standards and attention to detail.
- Team building skills: hiring, training, motivating and performance managing.
- Food service operations knowledge: safety, kitchen/FOH operations and menu development.
- Retail experience in buying, merchandising, inventory management and visual presentation.
- Strategic and operational thinking to plan growth and deliver excellence.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
- Highly organised, flexible and able to manage shifting priorities.
- Desirable own transport.
Qualifications
A relevant qualification in Hospitality, Retail Management, Business or equivalent experience is desirable. Food Safety Certificate (Level 2 or higher) required. Health & Safety qualification desirable. Familiarity with EPOS systems, stock control and retail analytics.
