Job Title: Residential Children's Home Manager

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire, UK

Hourly Rate: £27.89 - £30.84 PAYE OR £35.59 - £39.36 Umb

Contract: 6-month temporary contract (maternity cover) with potential to extend or move to a full-time contract

This is a thrilling chance to step into a pivotal role as a Residential Children's Home Manager at The Oaks in Stevenage, a nurturing 5-bed home for young people aged 11-18 with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to lead a committed team and make a real difference in the lives of Looked After Children (LAC), with the potential for the contract to extend or transition into a more permanent arrangement.

What you will do:
  • Oversee the day-to‑day operations of The Oaks, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all residents.
  • Lead and support a dedicated team of care professionals, including a Deputy Manager, Senior Support Workers, and Care Workers.
  • Manage staff rotas, control budgets, and oversee staffing levels to ensure optimal operation of the home.
  • Conduct staff interviews and manage recruitment to build a high‑performing team.
  • Ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations, maintaining and surpassing standards with confidence.
  • Submit and manage Schedule 2 (SC2) registration forms, keeping all documentation up to date and accurate.
  • Provide decisive leadership during high‑risk situations, ensuring the safety and welfare of young people and staff.
  • Cultivate a positive atmosphere that fosters the growth, development, and success of children and young people.
Requirements:
  • Level 5 qualification in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with Ofsted registration and managing inspections.
  • A minimum of two years' experience managing children's residential services is essential.
  • Experienced in working with Looked After Children and understanding safeguarding and regulatory frameworks.
  • Competence in managing rotas and budgets.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
