Job description

Managing Associate - Residential Real Estate

A national law firm with over 200 fee earners across eight locations is seeking a Managing Associate to join its Plymouth Residential Real Estate team. The team is one of the largest of its kind in the UK and is recognised for combining technical expertise with a personal, client‑focused approach. Clients consistently highlight the team's commercial insight and ability to deliver complex projects efficiently.

The role places the successful candidate at the centre of the Residential team, managing a diverse portfolio of clients, including PLC and regional housebuilders, mixed‑use developers, investors, local authorities, registered providers, and buy‑to‑rent schemes. They will oversee transactions from inception to completion, ensuring the team maintains its high standards of technical delivery and client service. In addition to handling their own caseload, the Managing Associate will supervise colleagues, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the team's strategic growth and business development initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced real estate lawyer with at least six years' post‑qualification experience and substantial exposure to residential development projects. They will have managed site assembly and estate setup, advised a variety of investors, and demonstrated the ability to deliver commercially sound, technically robust advice. Strong relationship‑building skills, both internally and with clients, are essential, as is experience supervising and developing colleagues.

This role offers the opportunity to join a nationally recognised housing team, work on high‑profile residential development projects, and play a key part in shaping the team's reputation and growth. It combines senior responsibility with hands‑on work, providing the successful candidate with visibility, influence, and the chance to advance their leadership and technical expertise.
