Location: Tyneside Vehicle Operating Centre, Earlsway, Gateshead, NE11 0YY

Job type: Permanent contract

Hours: 40 hours per week, this is a reserve role covering all shifts across a 24/7 shift rota, including weekends. When not covering the reserve duty you will work 4 days across Tues‑Fri, working between 19:00 and 05:00, please note the reserve role will supersede this.

Royal Mail is now recruiting for Network Distribution System Administrators. If you can work well under pressure and are friendly and professional, you are the type of person we’re looking for.

About the role

In order for Royal Mail to run a safe, efficient and cost effective fleet, the Network Distribution System Administrator would be expected to carry out the following tasks:

  • Ensure that the Distribution Management System is kept up to date and data correctly input daily, all drivers are de‑briefed at the end of their duty.
  • Ensure that CDU/FTA, the system we use to record our HGV drivers’ hours, is kept up to date and data correctly input daily in order to ensure that we comply with European Legislation.
  • Issuing of vehicle keys and log books in line with Royal Mail standards.
  • Ensure digital tacho cards are downloaded in line with Royal Mail policy.
  • Daily debrief to be carried out with all drivers, any unresolved issues to be passed onto shift manager.
  • Ensure planned maintenance is carried out on vehicles and the maintenance board and vehicle files are kept up to date.
  • There will be a Resourcing Assistant element to the position, including assistance with agency bookings and payroll, pre‑planning legal shift patterns using FTA Vision and organising signing on sheets.
  • Full Training will be provided.

  • Have a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points (for any roles with driving).

When required you will need to be comfortable and confident working alone, this will include decision making on certain tasks; for this you will receive full training. This attracts a Leadership Allowance of £193.98 per month pro rata when you perform the role.
