A prestigious research institution in Manchester seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop innovative electrochemical technologies for CO₂ removal. This role involves conducting experiments, preparing electrodes, and collaborating with the Principal Investigator. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in a relevant field and experience with electrochemical systems. The position offers a competitive pension scheme and flexible working options, aiming to contribute to environmental sustainability.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to develop the next-generation electrochemical technologies for direct ocean capture of CO₂.
Developing methods for CO₂ removal is important to promote global environment sustainability. Electrochemical decarbonisation is a promising and eco-friendly way that can reduce CO₂ emissions and help tackle climate change. This process can be achieved using an electrochemical system. The successful candidate would be expected to perform experiments independently. Daily experimental duties will include: (i) preparing electrodes used in the electrochemical system, (ii) testing their ability to remove CO₂, (iii) understanding the CO₂ removal mechanism. The successful candidate would also be expected to work alongside the Principal Investigator (Dr Zhen Xu) to conceptualise studies, design experiments, supervise students, and publish findings in appropriate journals.
The position is funded by the Leverhulme Trust and is available from February 2026 for a period of 12 months, with the possibility to extend after 12 months.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
