Job description
Removals Branch Manager (Operations-Focused)

Location: Avon (West of England)

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Salary: Competitive + performance bonus + benefits (vehicle allowance or company vehicle, pension, healthcare)

Ready to take full ownership of a busy removals operation? Our client is a respected, long-established removals and storage business in Avon, seeking a hands‑on Removals Branch Manager (or Operations Manager) to lead the branch day‑to‑day, elevate performance, and develop a high‑standards, safety‑first culture.

Why this role
  • A genuine leadership post with the autonomy to shape people, process, service and results.
  • Strong operational bias: you will run the daily plan, optimise resources, and protect margin through efficient delivery.
  • Clear progression: grow as a Branch Manager or step into a wider Operations remit as the business scales.
What you'll be doing
  • Own the daily schedule: plan surveys, allocate crews, vehicles and materials, optimise routes/utilisation, and adjust rapidly to late changes.
  • Lead the "ops drumbeat": morning briefs, end‑of‑day debriefs, whiteboard/WIP control, and focused KPI reporting (OTIF, damage rate, vehicle utilisation, margin per job).
  • Manage people: recruit, coach and line‑manage crews and office staff; set rotas; drive accountability, engagement and high service standards.
  • Keep it safe and compliant: RAMS, manual‑handling standards, PPE, vehicle/driver checks (including tachographs/driver hours), training records and BAR/quality procedures.
  • Control quality and cost: accurate job costing and quoting, control overtime/agency use, fuel and materials spend, stock of cartons/blankets/bars, and damage‑prevention initiatives.
  • Manage storage flows: inbound/outbound, inventories, containerised storage, space planning and housekeeping.
  • Own the customer journey: timely surveys, clear quotations and follow‑ups, insurance guidance, proactive day‑of‑move comms, swift issue resolution and post‑move care.
  • Support growth: partner with sales/marketing on local business development; provide realistic ops input to tenders; nurture repeat and referral work.
About you
  • Proven removals experience with responsibility for planning crews/vehicles and leading teams; supervisor, operations or branch management background ideal.
  • Calm organiser and confident communicator with strong IT skills (industry systems such as Moveware/MoveMan or similar, plus Microsoft 365).
  • Hands‑on leader who raises standards, solves problems quickly and makes good decisions under time pressure. Surveying/estimating and insurance knowledge are advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence; C1/C or CPC is a plus. Flexibility for occasional early starts/weekend cover.
What's on offer
  • Competitive salary + performance bonus.
  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle, pension, healthcare and paid training.
  • Modern kit, invested leadership and a clear pathway to broader Operations responsibility or multi‑site scope.
