Overview

Sunderland City Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hardworking Regulatory Compliance Officer to work in the Trading Standards Section of Public Protection and Regulatory Services to assist in the delivery of a modern consumer protection service that focuses on using resources in an efficient and targeted way. We are striving to ensure Sunderland is a compliant and safe place in which to live, work, visit and do business.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out enforcement duties relating to various Trading Standards legislation, including fair trading, product safety, age-restricted products and animal health and welfare.
  • Demonstrate a positive ‘can do’ attitude and engage proactively with businesses, consumers and partner agencies; work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Apply experience in investigations and compilation of prosecution reports; have a solid understanding of the regulatory framework that Trading Standards must operate within (e.g., RIPA, PACE and CPIA) which is advantageous.
  • Adhere to the normal working week (Monday to Friday) with occasional work outside normal hours as required.
Qualifications and experience
  • Experience in criminal law enforcement in a comparable public sector organisation.
  • Personal skills suitable for proactive engagement with businesses, consumers and partner agencies.
  • Experience in conducting investigations and compiling prosecution reports (advantageous to have a solid understanding of RIPA, PACE and CPIA).
Working arrangements

Normal working week Monday to Friday, with occasional working required outside normal hours.
