Priory Hospital Cardiff is looking to recruit a Registered Social Worker to join the team. We have a low secure unit with 4 beds, male and female, 18+. This is a part-time role of 22.5 hours. Located a few miles outside Cardiff, South Wales, Priory Hospital Cardiff supports the NHS by offering low secure services for males and females with a personality disorder, a learning disability or a mental health diagnosis. Care is provided across three bespoke therapeutic placements (BTPs), each offering specialist, tailored treatment in the least restrictive environment possible.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients’ wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

  • Provide expertise and leadership in safeguarding.
  • Focus on the rights of all service users and their families, including the ability to investigate, evaluate and learn from allegations to improve safety, dignity and compassion within the unit.
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team focusing on prevention, early intervention, building resilience and self-care, reducing and delaying dependency.
  • Undertake assessments, care plans and, where required, Tribunal Report to determine eligibility and support access to services under relevant social care framework.
What you'll bring to the role

Your resilience, empathy, and ability to work in challenging environments will help you support others through both highs and lows. The role requires a degree-level Social Work qualification with registration to Social Work England and detailed knowledge of Mental Health and Safeguarding Legislation, including the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Care Act 2014. The post holder must apply social work theories, evidence-informed practice, and legal expertise to deliver recovery-focused, multidisciplinary care that promotes rights, autonomy, and opportunity. They will sustain engagement in complex circumstances, collaborate across agencies, assess and manage risk, and provide clear, rationale-based professional opinions. Strong skills in critical reflection, positive use of authority, and maintaining professional boundaries are essential, alongside the ability to model teamwork, guide others, and deliver high-quality, person-centred outcomes.
