Overview

NWPS is a well‑established team that provides psychological services across two prison groups (Cumbria and Lancashire and Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire) and two probation regions (North West and Greater Manchester). Our regional approach gives access to a diverse range of work opportunities, including assessment and intervention with adult male prisoners, training, consultancy and research in reception, training and resettlement prisons. We also deliver specialist clinical input to three PIPEs and a Progression Regime and provide the OPD core offender management consultation service for public and privately managed prisons.

Working Arrangements

The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows. This flexible approach blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and/or from home (role must be based in the UK). The arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review, with the request for the nearest MoJ office location being decided at the time of offer.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment and intervention with adult male prisoners
  • Training, consultancy and research in reception, training and resettlement prisons
  • Provide specialist clinical input to three PIPEs and a Progression Regime
  • Deliver the OPD core offender management consultation service for public and privately managed prisons
  • Contribute to an emerging community service and implementation of Building Choices accredited interventions alongside HMPPS colleagues
Qualifications
  • HCPC registered Forensic Psychologist
  • Professional background in Psychology
  • Experience in providing clinical supervision
  • Completed relevant training in effective models of treatment and best practice
  • Likely to also be a Chartered Psychologist and full member of the appropriate division of the BPS if the post requires it
  • Post holder should have two years post‑registration experience at the point of taking up post
  • Spoken and written English proficiency
  • Evidence of experience: CV or work history, statement of suitability, effective decision making, leadership, communicating and influencing, working together, developing self and others, managing a quality service
