About the Trust

About the Service

The Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) operates at HMP Liverpool and HMP Altcourse – Category B, male-only prisons in the Liverpool area. The service delivers individual and group-based interventions, risk assessment and supports the holistic mental health and learning disability needs of our client group.

Positions Available

Four registration nurse associate posts – two permanent and two 12‑month fixed‑term contracts/secondments. The successful candidates will work under the supervision of a Registered Mental Health Nurse and will be supported by the wider IMHT.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete Primary Mental Health Screens for all new arrivals to identify mental health needs promptly.
  • Promote mental health and provide suicide prevention education on the induction wing.
  • Deliver psycho‑education and coping strategies to individuals and groups.
  • Support group activity and conduct physical health checks as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Nursing Associate scope of practice across settings.
  • Manage clinical observations, medication administration, venepuncture, ECGs and cannulation in accordance with trust policies.
  • Record nutritional and fluid intake and output accurately.
  • Ensure privacy, dignity and safety of individuals at all times.
  • Assist in risk assessment and apply appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Support the completion of safeguarding and mental capacity documentation.
  • Engage in reflective practice and contribute to continuous professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
Key Competencies and Experience
  • Experience working with individuals with complex clinical and risk presentations, including in institutional settings.
  • Experience in multi‑disciplinary teams and ability to engage clients who may find it difficult to use services.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberties and safeguarding principles.
  • Strong communication, decision‑making and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to developing a culture of learning and innovation.
Professional Development and CPD
  • Maintain current Nursing Associate knowledge and competence gained during the Training Programme.
  • Follow the NMC CPD requirements and revalidation process.
  • Contribute to the development of learning environments and innovative practice.
