Job description
Job Summary

The Registered Nurse, holding a valid NMC Pin, will be responsible for providing high‑quality nursing care to residents of the nursing home. The role requires a professional who can maintain dignity, comfort, and respect for the elderly while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Registered Nurse will oversee all aspects of care planning and delivery, including medication administration, assessments, and supervision of care staff.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Care
    • Provide and supervise high‑quality nursing care tailored to the individual needs of residents, including care planning, assessments, and reviews.
    • Monitor, assess, and evaluate the health and well‑being of residents, and elevate issues to medical professionals where necessary.
    • Ensure that care provided is in line with current best practices and complies with national standards and guidelines.
    • Promote a person‑centred approach to care that enhances the well‑being of residents, respecting their choices and preferences.
  2. Medication Administration
    • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and controlled drugs accurately and in line with NMC standards and the nursing home’s policies.
    • Ensure that medication administration records (MAR) are maintained accurately and promptly.
    • Monitor residents for adverse effects or reactions to medications and report any concerns to the GP or relevant healthcare professionals.
    • Carry out controlled drug audits and ensure medication storage and handling practices meet regulatory standards.
  3. Care Planning
    • Develop, implement, and review care plans in collaboration with residents, their families, and the multidisciplinary team.
    • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of residents’ care plans, ensuring that they are updated in response to changing needs.
    • Involve residents and their families in decisions about care plans to ensure that the care provided aligns with their wishes and needs.
  4. Leadership and Supervision
    • Provide leadership and support to care staff, including Healthcare Assistants and other nursing team members, ensuring that care is delivered effectively and professionally.
    • Ensure that all care staff adhere to best practices, policies, and regulations.
    • Assist with the orientation and mentorship of newly appointed care staff and provide ongoing training as required.
    • Act as the shift lead when required, ensuring the smooth running of the unit and that resident care is maintained at all times.
  5. Compliance and Documentation
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with NMC guidelines and the nursing home’s policies.
    • Participate in audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with CQC standards and other regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure safeguarding and health & safety policies are strictly followed, identifying and reporting any risks or incidents as necessary.
    • Uphold confidentiality and data protection protocols, ensuring that residents’ personal information is managed securely.
  6. Communication and Teamwork
    • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare professionals, fostering collaborative relationships to enhance resident care.
    • Liaise with GPs, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to care.
    • Participate in team meetings, reviews, and care discussions, offering input on clinical decisions and resident well‑being.
    • Provide emotional support to residents and their families, addressing any concerns or questions with sensitivity.
  7. Professional Development
    • Maintain active NMC registration and comply with all revalidation requirements.
    • Engage in continuous professional development to keep up‑to‑date with nursing practices and new healthcare developments.
    • Attend in‑house training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge, contributing to personal and professional growth.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Essential:
    • Registered Nurse (Adult) with a valid NMC Pin.
    • Proven experience in a clinical or nursing home setting.
    • Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and the NMC Code of Practice.
    • Ability to manage medication administration in a safe and timely manner.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Compassionate, patient‑focused, and committed to upholding residents' dignity and rights.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in elderly or dementia care.
    • Additional clinical qualifications or specialist training.
    • Experience in care plan management and auditing.
