About the Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled, empathetic, and reliable Registered Nurse to join the dedicated clinical team at St Luke’s Hospice. In this pivotal role, you will help deliver excellent palliative and end‑of‑life care, supporting patients with complex needs and their families during vulnerable times. Working collaboratively across the hospice and in the local community, you will combine clinical skills with a compassionate approach, upholding the ethos, values, and reputation of our hospice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver person‑centred, evidence‑based nursing care for patients with palliative or end‑of‑life needs, following care plans and best practice guidelines. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in partnership with patients, their loved ones, and the wider healthcare team.
  • Administer medication safely and monitor patients for changes in their condition, escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Provide sensitive, effective communication with patients, relatives, and colleagues, respecting differences and upholding confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to holistic symptom management, supporting physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using electronic systems, ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, allied health, and support staff to provide seamless, high‑quality palliative care across multiple settings.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice, and quality improvement activities to continually enhance patient experience and care standards.
  • Support a positive, inclusive, and compassionate environment, championing St Luke’s values and safeguarding the wellbeing of everyone within our care.
Salary, Contract, and Working Hours

Salary: £28,848.94 - £34,780.03 per year (dependent on experience)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: Various shift patterns including days, nights, and weekends
Location: Thurrock Hospice (RM14 3EB)

Essential Criteria
  • Active NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult).
  • Experience in general nursing, acute, palliative, or community care settings.
  • Solid understanding of palliative and end‑of‑life care principles.
  • Excellent assessment, clinical, and decision‑making skills with a patient‑focused approach.
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and a genuine commitment to treating patients and families with dignity and respect.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, remain calm under pressure, and respond flexibly to changing care needs.
  • Competent in using electronic patient record systems or willingness to learn.
Desirable Criteria
  • Previous experience in hospice, community, cancer, or specialist palliative care settings.
  • Post‑registration training or qualifications in palliative care, oncology, or symptom management.
  • Experience supporting families, carers, or working in an advisory or mentoring role.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (for community roles).
