A local council in the United Kingdom seeks a Refuse Vehicle Driver to collect various types of waste from numerous locations, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies. The role involves managing a team, working hands-on in waste collection, and flexibility to work on weekends and holidays. Candidates should have a full LGV Class C driving licence and strong communication skills. Experience in refuse collection is preferred but not mandatory as training will be provided.
Drive a refuse vehicle to collect household, recycling, industrial and commercial waste from a variety of locations e.g. domestic properties, schools, highway maintained, shops etc. To manage a team ensuring daily schedules are completed and all aspects of Health and safety and Council policies and procedures are adhered to. When not driving to assist in the loading of the vehicle working as part of the operating team with a hands on approach ensuring the effective delivery of the day-to-day waste service collections.
To work overtime or weekends to catch up the refuse/recycling service after a bank holiday, due to vehicle breakdown / inclement weather or other operation pressures. On occasions, when the service dictates, you will be required to work on Saturdays, and Bank/Public Holidays for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid. There is a requirement to work between Christmas and the New Year.
We seek a person who preferably has Refuse collection experience although training can be given where necessary. Initiative, communication skills and good customer care skills are essential for this post.
A full driving licence is essential with the entitlement to drive LGV Class C vehicles.
The role is based at the Carnaby depot but good local knowledge of other areas within the East Riding would be useful.
