A regional local council in Willand is seeking a confident individual to join their Street Scene & Open Spaces team. The role involves engaging with residents to improve waste management and recycling initiatives while managing operational and office tasks. Essential skills include strong organisational and interpersonal abilities, along with a proactive approach to solving environmental issues. This position offers a competitive hourly rate, flexible working arrangements, and excellent training opportunities.
We currently have a vacancy within our Street Scene & Open Spaces team based at Carlu Close, Hitchcocks Business Park, Willand and covering the Mid Devon area. We are looking for a confident and organised person to work as part of a team in a busy operational environment.
Do you enjoy engaging with people and helping to resolve issues? Are you a problem solver with a keen interest in the environment? At Mid Devon we offer the successful candidate an opportunity to actively work with our residents to encourage greater recycling and improve environmental awareness. The successful candidate will work with a range of different services, including the enforcement team to ensure that they are utilising our recycling schemes correctly and promote all aspects of sustainable waste management.
The role will be divided between office and operational working. It will involve engaging with residents to assess their needs, providing advice and tips on how to improve waste management. While in the office, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management and input of data onto live databases, therefore a competent understanding of Microsoft Office systems would be advantageous.
Community engagement will be a critical function of the role including liaising with local schools and volunteer groups to provide advice and education on recycling.
You will also need to have good organisational and interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate at all levels with the public and colleagues.
