Job Overview

The post-holder will be based at Filcombe Farm Morcombelake but the role will involve travel and working between multiple locations. The role often involves walking for long distances over undulating terrain and carrying heavy loads such as fence posts, gates, tools and equipment. A full driving licence is essential.

Work Environment

This is an exciting time to join the West Dorset & Cranborne Chase Team. We are a Restore Nature priority with big ambitions to support nature recovery at scale across Dorset & South Wiltshire. The Ranger will work with the Lead Ranger & Area Rangers to deliver nature conservation, access and visitor experience work, supporting multiple sites in West Dorset from the Golden Cap office.

Essential Responsibilities

You'll help protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You will pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area. Wherever you encounter people, you'll take the time to talk and answer their questions, rather than rushing away. You will ensure that conservation work and outdoor experiences are of the highest standard and that community relationships are built, representing the Trust proudly.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Ability to carry out physical tasks to protect and improve land, habitats, and access
  • Confidence in helping visitors understand and enjoy the place and its conservation work
  • Understanding of safety procedures and ability to help others stay safe
  • Experience in working well with colleagues and supporting volunteers
  • Capability to organise work and use tools, time and materials responsibly
  • Awareness of how to help the property run well and support its long‑term future
  • A driver with a full UK driving licence
  • Practical experience in conservation work to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
  • Happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work and why it matters
  • Hard‑working and willing to learn
  • Able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
  • Experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors
  • Able to use machinery and equipment with relevant certificates

Salary and Contract

Salary: £26,793 per annum. Contract: 12‑month Fixed‑Term Contract. Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week. Willingness to work some weekends, bank holidays, evenings, and be on call.
