Job description

In line with our redeployment policy, we'll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy. As a Ranger, you're a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you'll play a crucial role in keeping the nation's beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people. You will work across the Calke Abbey estate, Foremark and Staunton Harold as part of our partnership with Severn Trent. You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

What it's like to work here

One of the East Midlands' top 10 visitor attractions, ghostly Calke Abbey is a high performing property. The unique visitor experience gives a vivid portrayal of a decaying country house, with the property's interiors preserved but not restored. The team are passionate and committed to the property and maintain exceptional standards of conservation. The newly refurbished restaurant serves local and seasonal produce, including organically reared meat from the estate.

What you'll be doing

You'll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You'll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you'll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task. You'll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You'll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
