Job description
Overview

The MRI department at Kings College Hospital is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Radiographer to join our team. We undertake a wide array of sub-specialist scanning including Musculoskeletal, Hepatobiliary, Cardiac, Vascular and Paediatric imaging. The department has 6 Siemens scanners. We are a busy unit with a friendly, supportive team. Please note, this advert may close early if a high number of applications are received.

Responsibilities
  • To perform a wide range of scans, working autonomously to utilise department protocols and undertake MRI procedures of the highest quality.
  • To ensure a high standard of patient care, and participate in the monitoring of standards.
  • To ensure that any person entering the MRI scanner is appropriately safety checked in accordance with departmental policy and act as patient and staff advocate in MR safety issues.
  • The post holder is required to have excellent clinical communication and interpersonal skills and will need to be able to communicate effectively with service stakeholders within the service.
  • Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with kindness and respect.

Job Description
  • Act as patient and staff advocate.
  • Provide timely, efficient and courteous provision of MRI services to the agreed standards of the department, considering patient needs.
  • Monitor and adjust work priorities in conjunction with other professionals to meet changing demands.
  • Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of imaging equipment, reporting faults as appropriate.
  • Participate in the departmental rota and be flexible in responding to service needs.
  • Be responsive to change management issues and understand implications for the Radiology service.
  • Ensure all adverse incidents are reported in line with trust policies.
  • Participate in clinical audit to improve quality of service.
  • Deal with routine MRI safety issues as they arise; take advice when necessary.
  • Take part in the extended MRI service, including evenings and weekends.
  • Undertake MRI department quality assurance tests and other duties as directed.
Communication
  • Receive and welcome patients and staff to Radiology reception areas and handle enquiries kindly and courteously.
  • Communicate changes to referrals after assessing clinical justification for MRI examinations under local protocols.
  • Deal sensitively with patients or carers under emotional stress, including the terminally ill and bereaved.
  • Deal with potentially aggressive patients.
  • Ensure informed consent and communicate information about examinations to patients and carers.
  • Communicate effectively with staff within and outside the department to ensure smooth service operation.
Knowledge, Training And Experience
  • Position patients accurately for each examination, adapting techniques as needed.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving approaches and refer issues to the line manager when necessary.
  • Be accountable for own professional actions and work within codes of Practice and guidelines.
  • Be responsible for ensuring legal documentation on RIS and PACS and timely provision of images to referrers.
  • Safely administer oral contrast media and other drugs as required.
  • Train in the utilisation of complex imaging equipment and advanced software on MRI equipment.
Qualification & Experience
  • Essential: HCPC registration; BSc Radiography (or equivalent)
  • Essential: Evidence of recent, relevant CPD; MRI experience including MSK, Gynae and HPB imaging
  • Essential: Excellent written communication; ability to organise and prioritise workload; understanding of clinical governance and adverse incident reporting
