Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the dynamic team, focusing on projects within the power, utilities, and civils sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all contractual and commercial aspects of projects, ensuring profitability and compliance with relevant regulations. You will play a crucial role in cost control, risk management, and client liaison, contributing to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Management: Prepare and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and valuations. Monitor and control project expenditure, identifying and mitigating potential cost overruns. Prepare and submit applications for payment and variations. Conduct regular cost reporting and analysis, providing accurate and timely information to project stakeholders.
  • Contract Administration: Administer and interpret contract documents, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations. Prepare and negotiate subcontracts and supplier agreements. Manage variations, claims, and disputes, ensuring fair and equitable resolution. Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, JCT).
  • Measurement and Valuation: Accurately measure and value work completed, both on-site and from drawings. Prepare and submit detailed measurement reports and schedules. Conduct site visits to verify progress and assess work quality.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess potential commercial risks, developing and implementing mitigation strategies. Maintain accurate records and documentation to support claims and disputes. Monitor and report on market trends and industry developments.
  • Client Liaison: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Attend client meetings and provide regular progress updates. Address client queries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Produce accurate and timely cost reports, valuations, and forecasts. Maintain detailed records of all commercial activities. Contribute to the development and improvement of internal processes and procedures.
Specific Power, Utilities & Civils Responsibilities
  • Understanding of specific cost drivers within power, utilities, and civils projects (e.g., cable laying, pipework, substation construction, earthworks).
  • Experience in managing costs associated with complex infrastructure projects, including underground services and network upgrades.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations related to power, utilities, or civils works.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a strong track record of success in the power, utilities, or civils sectors would be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law and commercial management principles.
  • Strong measurement and valuation skills.
  • Proficient in the use of quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
