Job summary

A leading recruitment consultancy is looking for an experienced Quality Supervisor based in Birmingham to support the Director of Quality in improving quality management systems. This central role involves conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and leading quality improvement initiatives. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Quality Management or Engineering and experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably related to aerospace. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills are essential.

Job description
Quality Supervisor - Aerospace

In support of a global specialist metals supplier with a particular focus on the aerospace and defence sectors, we are seeking an experienced Quality Supervisor based in Birmingham who will be responsible for supporting the Director of Quality in maintaining and improving the quality management system (QMS), as well as ensuring that all products meet the required standards and specifications. The Quality Supervisor will also be responsible for conducting inspections and audits, and leading quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the QMS. This activity will support the expansion of company growth.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Handling customer & regulatory audits.
  • Support the preparation and management of quality documentation and records.
Inspections and Testing
  • Conduct regular inspections and tests of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of inspection and testing equipment.
  • Analyse and report on inspection and test results, identifying any deviations from quality standards.
Audits and Compliance
  • Assist in internal and external audits, including preparation, execution, and follow-up on findings. Travelling if required for regulatory & customer audits.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented and monitored for effectiveness.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
Quality Improvement
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and process efficiency.
  • Participate in practical root cause analysis and problem-solving activities on an individual and team basis.
  • Lead or support quality improvement projects and teams.
Training and Development
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide guidance and support to production teams to ensure quality awareness and compliance.
Supplier Quality
  • Assist in evaluating and qualifying new suppliers and maintaining supplier quality performance.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and implement improvements.
Customer Satisfaction
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and quality issues promptly.
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement measures to enhance customer satisfaction.

Having relating experience from within a similar manufacturing environment - where possible from aerospace/defence, you should have exposure to working within a metallics based stock/supply environment and where possible, understand materials processing and supply.

Qualifications
  • Ideally have a degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or a similar / related field.
  • Have similar experience in a quality supervisory role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the steel/alloy/metals industry.
  • Having experience in quality management systems auditing/certification (AS9100/AS9120/ISO 9001) or other relevant certifications is a plus.
