Job description
Qualified Teachers in Somerset – Find Your Perfect School Match

Pay: £130 to £145 for day-to-day, £155 - £190 for long-term
Location: Secondary Schools across Bristol, with roles close to home. Driving isn’t required, though it can open up even more options.
Type of employment: Fully flexible day-to-day supply, with long-term and permanent roles often offered within weeks.

If you’re a qualified teacher looking for a role that gives you variety, choice, and the freedom to shape your week, supply teaching in Bristol could be a brilliant next step. Whether you’re an ECT building experience or an experienced teacher looking for better balance, we’ll help you walk into classrooms where you feel valued, supported, and able to teach your way.

You’ll start by helping local schools with their day-to-day, short-notice cover needs. It’s simple, steady and gives you full control over your diary. What most teachers love is how quickly supply turns into a long‑term match. Some educators secure ongoing roles within their first fortnight with us, sometimes even the moment they’re cleared. When a school loves what you bring, they’ll make it known.

Protocol Education works closely with secondary schools across Bristol, and they regularly ask us for confident, calm, and adaptable teachers who can bring consistency into the classroom. If you’re someone who builds rapport quickly and brings the room together, you’ll fit right in.

Why teachers choose supply with us
  • Shape your week, choosing 2 to 5 days
  • FREE CPD, including Thrive, Team Teach and subject‑specific development
  • Schools matched to your teaching style and preferred locations
  • Build your experience across a range of Bristol secondary settings
  • Dedicated consultant who listens, supports and finds roles that genuinely suit you
  • A great way to trial different schools before committing long‑term
The Role

As a Qualified Supply Teacher, you’ll step in to lead the learning when a class teacher is away. Planning is usually in place, so you can focus on teaching, guiding pupils through the work and creating a positive, settled atmosphere.

You’ll need strong classroom presence, confidence in your subject and the flexibility to adapt to different routines. ECTs often use supply to build experience across year groups, and experienced teachers enjoy using their skills without the extra workload. Either way, every day brings something different.

Our Free Training

All educators registered with us get access to ongoing CPD at no cost:

  • Thrive Approach: Understand behaviour, support emotional wellbeing and build calmer classrooms
  • Team Teach: Positive handling and de‑escalation strategies
  • Trauma‑Informed Practices: Tools for supporting pupils who’ve experienced adversity
  • Cover & Classroom Management Training: Confidence‑building guidance for working across a range of schools

ECTs also receive coaching and support to help strengthen classroom routines and build experience quickly.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome teachers from all subjects and backgrounds, including ECTs and experienced UK or overseas‑trained teachers. You’ll be great for this role if you:

  • Hold UK QTS (or equivalent)
  • Bring clear behaviour management and classroom confidence
  • Enjoy variety and building relationships with new schools
  • Stay calm, organised and positive under pressure
  • Want flexibility while still doing what you love

If you’re exploring teaching roles in Bristol and want a simple way to find your perfect long‑term school match, supply is a brilliant place to start.
