Job description
Project Manager – Hybrid in Wolverhampton – up to £48,800 – full time permanent

We are working with a large, forward-thinking institution undergoing significant digital transformation.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of IT projects from concept and business case through to implementation and transition into Business as Usual.

Initially, there will be a strong focus on a major timetabling system initiative, working closely with suppliers and stakeholders to define the project plan and delivery approach. Over time, the role will support a wider portfolio of digital and infrastructure projects.

This position requires a technically minded IT Project Manager, someone comfortable working across systems, infrastructure and enterprise applications rather than pure business change.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full project lifecycle from initiation to BAU handover
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans including scope, milestones, budgets, dependencies and risk logs
  • Manage multi-million-pound budgets (typically £100k–£3m) including financial control, forecasting and governance
  • Build and manage relationships across project boards, technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Work in a matrix environment, coordinating business and technical colleagues without direct line management responsibility
  • Manage third-party suppliers including challenging delivery where required and maintaining accountability
  • Support the development of business cases and ensure alignment with strategic digital objectives
  • Drive benefits realisation beyond delivery ensuring measurable value, efficiency gains and operational improvements
  • Apply appropriate governance frameworks, balancing structured waterfall methodologies with evolving agile practices
  • Capture lessons learned and embed improvements into future project delivery
What They’re Looking For
Essential
  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management qualification (PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent).

  • Strong risk, quality and governance management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and navigating complex organisational dynamics.
  • Practical experience setting up projects from scratch, including time/resource estimation.
  • Experience working with both waterfall and agile delivery approaches.
Desirable
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent.
  • Public sector or higher education IT project experience.
  • Experience delivering timetabling or similar enterprise systems.
  • Agile certifications or experience transitioning delivery approaches.
What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)
  • Establishing a robust project plan for the timetabling initiative.
