Overview
Are you passionate about rehabilitation? The Programme Facilitator in the Probation Service will deliver a range of evidence‑based interventions to people on probation, helping them change attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. The role is regionally based, requires travel and night‑time work, and supports offenders across all offence types and risk levels, including sexual and domestic abuse cases.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver group or one‑to‑one interventions in line with operational manuals and the individual learning style of each probationer.
- Adhere to statutory safeguarding responsibilities for children and adults and to multi‑agency public protection policies.
- Manage group dynamics and complex needs to ensure effective targeting of the intervention and attainment of learning outcomes, addressing problematic behaviour promptly.
- Monitor and recommend suitability, risk, safety and wellbeing throughout the intervention, informing future sentence management.
- Record and report attendance, risk issues, feedback and other data accurately to meet quality assurance requirements.
- Communicate progress and concerns to Probation Practitioners, courts and other stakeholders, contributing to risk assessment and sentence management.
- Deliver workshops and briefings to probation staff and external stakeholders about the interventions available.
- Model pro‑social behaviour, reinforcing positive attitudes and challenging anti‑social behaviour.
- Participate in regular video monitoring feedback sessions to maintain audit standards and reflect on practice, implementing professional development advised by supervisors.
Assessment Process
Applicants will be sifted after the deadline. Those selected for a sift interview will undertake a facilitation exercise and a behavioural interview. The facilitation exercise involves a 10‑minute presentation on a topic supplied ahead of the interview, assessed against Communicating and Influencing, Developing Self and Others, Managing a Quality Service and Working Together. Successful candidates progress to an assessment centre, must complete required training, and pass an assessment for Accredited Programme Facilitator status.
