Overview

Are you passionate about rehabilitation? Could you help people make meaningful and sustained changes in their lives? If so, then a career as a Programme Facilitator in the Probation Service is for you.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver interventions to people on probation in groups or individually.
  • Create a therapeutic and safe working environment aligned with operational manuals, considering learning styles and abilities.
  • Adhere to statutory safeguarding responsibilities and public protection policies.
  • Manage group dynamics and complexity to achieve learning outcomes, addressing problematic behaviour.
  • Monitor and assess suitability, risk, safety and wellbeing throughout the intervention, informing sentence management.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of attendance, feedback and risk issues to meet QA requirements.
  • Communicate progress to practitioners and stakeholders, including courts and criminal justice agencies.
  • Deliver workshops and briefings to probation staff and external partners.
  • Model pro‑social behaviour, challenging antisocial attitudes.
  • Participate in video monitoring feedback sessions, reflect on practice and implement professional development.
Qualifications
  • Experience dealing with challenging behaviour, especially from individuals with social and personal difficulties.
  • Experience working collaboratively and building effective team relationships.
  • Awareness of criminal justice system, safeguarding principles and typical sentences.
  • Analytical skills to assess and interpret information from various sources.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office skills.

  • Passion for teaching, facilitating and engaging adult learners.
Assessment Process

Potential candidates will be sifted once the deadline closes. Successful candidates will be invited for an interview, which includes a facilitation exercise and behavioural discussion. The assessment focuses on communicating, influencing, managing quality and developing others.

Salary & Working Hours

Base salary £26,475, plus unsocial‑hour payments: 30 % for evening work and 50 % for Saturday. 37‑hour week, 60‑minute commute policy, and travel expenses may be claimed.
