Position

Gross Annual Compensation Range: £33,000 - £41,000 including London Weighting + additional compensation for on‑call rotations

Employment Type: Full‑time, 35 hours/week

Job Description: The UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) London Study Center supports academic programs serving approximately 500 students annually at 12 partner institutions across England.

Responsibilities

Under guidance from the Program Manager, and as a key member of a small office, the Program Officer resolves student‑services related issues according to clear guidelines and/or policies on a variety of academic, administrative, and student‑life matters inherent within education abroad programs. She/​he makes periodic site visits to partner institutions to advise students, consult, and strengthen working relationships with liaisons. The Program Officer collaborates with UCEAP colleagues to organize and implement student orientations and other events, exercises sound judgment when escalating and consulting on complex issues, and serves as an on‑site contact for emergency student welfare issues, including after regular business hours. She/​he performs general administrative services, assists in the planning and implementation of student events, and participates in occasional weekend cultural activities, maintaining office academic records, student database, and supporting program promotion efforts through social‑media and other resources. Working cooperatively with the Program Manager, she/​he applies broad administrative rules, policies, and precedents, seeks direction for more complex assignments, and is available on occasion for evenings, weekends, and the after‑hours on‑call rotation.

Requirements
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong professional English verbal and written communication skills, typically equivalent to CEFR level C1 or higher.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with proven ability to engage with students and employ counseling techniques with sensitivity, including appropriate referrals.
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated project and operational management abilities to coordinate a broad range of operational, academic, and student welfare and conduct issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen, learn, and build trust among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and creating an inclusive work environment.
  • Previous customer experience supporting and providing student services, including academic advising and counseling; ability to assess and give appropriate referrals.
  • Knowledge about current safety, security, and health issues as they affect students abroad.
  • Ability to problem‑solve and use sound judgment and decision‑making skills on concepts requiring analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of the structure and organization of British and US higher‑education systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the goals of education abroad programs.
  • Sound judgment and proficiency in discretion, maintaining data privacy, security, and confidentiality with sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Proficient in MS Office or similar, cloud‑based computing and collaboration platforms (MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.), virtual meeting platforms, familiarity with social media platforms; and willingness to learn other applications and technologies as needed.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, prioritize and adjust to varying workloads, manage a variety of tasks, and meet multiple deadlines with changing priorities, interruptions, and conflicting demands.
Desirable
  • Experience studying, working, or living abroad; experience with student case management (academic, disciplinary, health, etc.) and/or health and safety support, planning student‑focused events.
Special Conditions
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the UK without sponsorship.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check, including a criminal check where permissible.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and abroad on an occasional basis.
  • Must be available for occasional evenings, weekends, and an after‑hours on‑call rotation to respond to student emergencies.
