Job Summary

Do you have a compassionate approach to working with people? Are you committed to understanding people's needs and using evidence-based practice to help them flourish? We are looking for a Professional Lead for PBS Services to join us to support the delivery of high quality, person-centred support to improve the quality of life of adults with learning disabilities.

This is an exciting new role, created to strengthen and develop our PBS team and provision. You will provide professional leadership for our PBS team, which currently includes 7 Behaviour Analyst posts and 3 Assistants, and work closely with the Head of Applied Psychology & PBS on strategic initiatives, service development, and embedding evidence-based Positive Behaviour Support across the organisation.

As part of our Clinical Services team you will collaborate with Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Psychiatry and Practice Lead colleagues and join a peer group of professional leads for OT and SLT, fostering collaborative learning, practice and innovation.

The clinical element of this role will focus on our North Hub (Barnsley, Easingwold, Scunthorpe). Travel to our other sites will be required in this role. (For internal candidates the current base location would remain unchanged).

This is a full time role (part time will be considered).

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist clinical expertise in behavioural and skills assessments, formulation and intervention, including complex casework and second opinions.
  • Promote co-production with people we support, families and carers to ensure they have a voice in planning their own futures, shaping service delivery and reducing restrictive practices.
  • Maintain extensive experience working with autistic individuals and people with intellectual disabilities to enhance their quality of life and reduce behaviours of concern.
  • Work as part of a strong multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to deliver holistic, person-centred care.
  • Provide professional leadership and supervision for PBS professionals, ensuring clinical governance and high standards of practice. The post holder must be registered as a UKBA (cert) and have in-depth understanding of PBS principles and application.
  • Drive quality improvement through audit, service evaluation and feedback mechanisms, ensuring continuous development of PBS delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Applied Psychology & PBS to deliver strategic initiatives, service development and embed evidence-based PBS across the organisation.
  • Embed robust clinical governance, safeguarding and risk management practices within PBS service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, legal frameworks and regulatory requirements, including UKBA (cert) registration.
Qualifications
  • Registration as a UK Behaviour Analyst, UKBA (cert).
  • Masters level qualification in ABA/PBS or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) across the career span.
  • Evidence of other specialist courses or attendance at online learning.
Desirable
  • Qualification in Leadership and Management.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of national, regional and local health and social care drivers.
  • Highly advanced practitioner knowledge of learning disability, autism and associated mental health difficulties.
  • Advanced knowledge of the clinical evidence base and assessment and intervention approaches specific to the people we support, including restrictive practice reduction and trauma‑informed care.
  • Experience solving complex, sensitive and highly technical clinical situations.
  • Knowledge of approaches to support people through high distress situations and crisis management.
  • Knowledge of clinical supervisory models and practice.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead and engage teams.
  • Understanding of leadership skills and experience of supporting colleagues in leadership roles.
  • Good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and best interests processes.
  • Experience leading, managing, developing and supervising a team of professional staff, with knowledge of UKSBA/BACB career frameworks.
  • Adaptability and initiative in decision making and reasoning.
  • Analytical and organisational skills enabling full autonomy in the clinical setting.
  • Ability to identify and contribute to improvements in service quality.
  • Skills in delivering training and presentations to a range of audiences.
Experience
  • Significant experience of working within clinical settings with individuals with complex needs, including learning disability and/or autism, within multi-professional teams.
  • Experience and/or involvement in auditing clinical standards within practice settings.
  • Proven project management of medium to long term initiatives that bring positive change to services.
  • Ability to devise, plan and deliver training to colleagues, students and families, adapting delivery style to needs.
  • Negotiation and communication skills in complex and challenging situations.
  • Leadership of service and/or organisation-wide PBS initiatives.
  • Extensive experience delivering PBS training to groups, including intermediate level training.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring key staff, including service managers.
  • Experience supervising others.
