About the role

As Product Owner at Encompass, you are the single point of accountability for backlog content and prioritisation—driving delivery of high-value, high-quality features. You translate insight into clear, testable backlog items and align execution with product strategy, balancing user needs, technical feasibility, and business goals.

As Product Owner at Encompass, you will be accountable for maximising delivery impact through clear backlog ownership, stakeholder alignment, and agile team collaboration. Your responsibilities include:

Backlog Management & Delivery Readiness
  • Own and maintain a prioritised, transparent, and INVEST-compliant team backlog.
  • Break down roadmap themes into actionable user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure backlog items are well-defined, testable, and ready for implementation.
  • Review completed work for quality, acceptance, and alignment to story intent.
Goal Setting & Value Alignment
  • Define sprint goals that reflect roadmap outcomes and stakeholder needs.
  • Prioritise work based on value, complexity, and risk—balancing features, enhancements, tech debt, and compliance.
  • Align delivery with product strategy, OKRs, and regulatory drivers.
Stakeholder Engagement & Feedback Loops
  • Act as the primary interface between development teams and stakeholders.
  • Capture and validate requirements, coordinate feedback sessions, and manage expectations.
  • Ensure stakeholder input is reflected in planning without compromising prioritisation logic.
Agile Team Collaboration
  • Lead and actively participate in all agile ceremonies (planning, refinement, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives).
  • Support engineering and design teams with story clarification, estimation, and risk management.
  • Coordinate with Product Operations and other POs to manage dependencies and shared milestones.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Track delivery success through metrics such as sprint goal achievement, feature adoption, and velocity trends.
  • Monitor backlog readiness, Jira hygiene, and stakeholder satisfaction (internal/external NPS).
  • Use analytics and feedback to refine backlog and improve delivery confidence and product quality.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Previous experience in a Product Owner role in a SaaS or Agile delivery environment
  • Strong knowledge of Scrum and Agile practices; ideally PSPO I certified or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience writing user stories, managing backlog refinement, and leading delivery with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Familiarity with backlog and delivery tools (e.g., Jira, Productboard, Confluence, FigJam)
  • Ability to make pragmatic prioritisation decisions using data, risk, and value frameworks
  • Understanding of data models, technical constraints, and enterprise SaaS delivery environments (esp. RegTech, FinTech, or compliance-driven sectors)
Behaviours
  • Customer-Focused – Deep empathy for users and commitment to delivering value
  • Decisive – Can make prioritisation calls and defend trade-offs with logic and clarity
  • Detail-Oriented – Writes high-quality, testable stories and aligns development to outcomes
  • Collaborative – Brings clarity, energy, and alignment across teams
  • Accountable – Owns the backlog, the process, and the outcome
  • Growth-Oriented – Actively seeks feedback and learning opportunities to mature product craft
