About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Procurement Manager to join our Rail business unit.

Role Purpose:

Work closely with the project team and the wider Balfour Beatty procurement community to develop and deliver the procurement strategy in accordance with Main Contract terms, BBR procurement policies, and processes.

What you'll be doing

  • Ensure project requirements are met and best value deals are negotiated to meet and exceed savings targets.
  • Manage total annual spend typically up to approximately £50 million per annum, including higher risk/complexity projects.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary sourcing teams through the ITT process for contracts over the value stipulated in the strategy to select the best supplier.
  • Negotiate agreements for projects that support on-time delivery and meet safety & sustainability requirements.
  • Proactively investigate and propose supply chain improvements.
  • Manage compliance with processes and ensure quality standards are maintained across the team(s), recommending improvements where necessary.
  • Proactively manage the implementation of the behavioural safety programme and Sustainability Roadmap.
  • Manage, coach, and develop talented teams to deliver high performance.

Who we're looking for

The following personal qualities and experience are essential:

  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Basic Category Management knowledge.
  • Ability to set up a sourcing team & run successful tenders/ITTs.
  • Good understanding of legal frameworks and contract law.
  • Working knowledge of ORACLE/P-cards, etc.
  • Ability to understand customer & business needs, and to prioritise work accordingly.
  • Understanding of supplier relationship management.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Organisation and time management skills.
  • Procurement experience at a senior level in a large organisation.
  • Experience negotiating complex deals of high value/business impact, with a track record of savings.
  • Experience running successful higher value/higher risk tenders/ITTs.
  • Proven ability to run simultaneous projects and deliver positive business results.

The following personal qualities and experience are desirable:

  • MCIPS or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Advanced negotiation training.
  • Held senior procurement roles in Rail, construction, or manufacturing/industrial environments.
