Process Engineer - Water Industry

We are currently in the market to recruit multiple Process Engineers (Water) for a variety of major long-term frameworks across the UK.

In addition to a range of long-term programmes across the UK water industry RPS, and Tetra Tech, have successfully won a £100 million single‑award framework from United Utilities to support the improvement of river health across the Northwest of England.

About The Team

RPS Water Consulting is a team of Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy development, to our Water Industry clients to support business planning and delivery. This is an evolving industry, providing challenges and opportunities that require innovation, dedication, and teamwork to help us meet our clients' needs.

About You

As a key member of the Water Consultancy business, your role as a Process Engineer (Water) is critical to helping us deliver great projects for our Water Industry clients. You will be working alongside a multi‑disciplinary team of water project experts on a range of capital delivery projects.

You will have a substantial opportunity to contribute towards optioneering, outline, and detailed design expertise across various frameworks. Our scope of work encompasses a wide range of technically demanding projects in the field of Wastewater Infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities
  • Handle the technical delivery of projects, monitor the budget, meet deadlines and ensure quality standards, all while aiming to exceed client expectations.
  • Operate both independently and as part of a team, including production, verification, review or approval of raw water envelope, influent characterisations, process performance reports, process outline design calculations, PFDs, equipment specifications, process control philosophies, technical reports and schematics.
  • Provide process optimisation and advisory services for new and existing water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and associated infrastructure.
  • Oversee and deliver multi‑disciplinary projects, acting as Process Designer as assigned, utilising and developing cutting‑edge digital design methodologies.
  • Identify and cultivate innovative and optimised technical solutions aligned with client requirements and objectives, including collaboration with laboratories on chemical analysis and with software teams to develop new optimisation tools.
  • Coordinate and lead collaborative efforts within multi‑disciplinary teams (e.g., process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and ICA).
  • Establish and nurture relationships with clients and partners in capital alliances, addressing project technical, commercial and progress‑related matters.
  • Ensure projects adhere to requisite technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
  • Facilitate the capture of critical project and technical knowledge, including innovative approaches.
  • Advocate for the capability and accomplishments of the Process team, both internally (UK and globally) and externally (Supply Chain Partners).
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Expertise in the technical execution of process plant systems within intricate water industry engineering ventures.
  • Experience in participating in design and construction initiatives utilising digital design methodologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, fostering a collaborative environment within teams.
  • Experience in the water and/or wastewater sectors.
Qualifications
  • Preferably degree qualified in Chemical Engineering or a relevant technical subject. Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
  • Preferably affiliation with a professional institution like IChemE or CIWEM, or in the process of working towards membership and nearing application.
