Overview

Role: Private Client Solicitor – Wills and Probate

Our client, a leading national law firm respected for its excellence in client care, is looking to recruit an experienced Private Client Solicitor Director. The firm serves corporate entities and private individuals in over 25 practice areas from offices across London and England and Wales. The firm is recognised in The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as a top-tier practice, holding Investors in People Gold Accreditation, and is LEXCEL, Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001-2013 accredited and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Wills & Probate Department background

The Wills & Probate Law department provides will drafting, inheritance tax planning, estate administration assistance, and advice on contested wills. Practitioners have expertise in international wills, complex family scenarios, and probate litigation, including advice under English law and Islamic wills and inheritance matters.

Main Responsibilities of the Role
  • Report directly to department Director
  • Exhibit a professional, pro-active approach with strong client care and sensitivity to client needs
  • Manage all aspects of Wills & Probate work
  • Supervise a team of solicitors/trainees & paralegals undertaking private client work
  • Manage appropriate caseload types and complexities
  • Assist with casework including Wills, Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney cases: estate administration; grant of probate; setting up trusts; inheritance tax advice; court of protection matters; contesting a will; settling tax liabilities
  • Attend clients, take instructions and prepare cases
  • Handle correspondence
  • Maintain accurate time costing procedures
  • Implement supervisor recommendations from monthly file reviews and ensure timely action
  • Ensure compliance with file management standards
Key Skills Required
  • 3+ years’ PQE
  • Clean, valid Practising Certificate at time of application
  • Committed team player, adaptable to new challenges
  • Proven supervisory experience and ability to work to KPIs
  • Pro-active professional with excellent client care, sensitivity to vulnerable clients, and ability to resolve complex matters
  • Excellent networking and communication skills with ability to market the firm and generate new business
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Ability to use initiative and sound judgment
  • Working knowledge of Wills & Probate work and ability to service privately funded cases
  • Extensive experience in Wills & Probate related work; advocacy experience is an advantage
  • Excellent IT skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office and document management
  • STEP qualification is preferable but not essential
