Job summary

A public sector firm in London is seeking a Principal Strategic Planner to support statutory planning responsibilities and provide expert advice on strategic planning and spatial development. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in development management and spatial strategies, as well as the ability to manage complex projects and engage with diverse stakeholders. This role is essential for contributing to the production of planning frameworks and processing major development applications.

Qualifications

  • Experience in development management and planning policy.
  • Strong understanding of spatial strategies and the strategic planning process.
  • Expertise in processing strategic planning application referrals and negotiating Section 106 agreements.
  • Ability to contribute to the production of Opportunity Area Planning Frameworks and related planning documents.
  • Proficiency in preparing complex briefings and reports for senior officials and external organisations.
  • Skilled in engaging with diverse agencies and addressing strategic and spatial development issues.
  • Ability to manage staff and resources as per organisational policies and standards.
  • A flexible approach to work and strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Adopt a flexible working approach to support the Authority's statutory planning duties for London.
  • Provide expert advice on current and emerging strategic planning matters and spatial development trends.
  • Offer spatial planning advice on development management, Local Development Documents, and other mayoral concerns.
  • Contribute to the production of the London Plan, SPGs, Opportunity Areas, and related planning frameworks.
  • Process large-scale applications for developments of potential strategic importance referred to the Mayor.
  • Lead or contribute to spatial strategies, monitor the Mayor's strategies and environmental impact assessments.
  • Negotiate Section 106 agreements and advise on borough development plan documents and local plans.
  • Lead or contribute to policy development projects, planning briefs, and plans of agencies outside London.
